A ten-seat office for the corporate functions of energy industry solutions firm SBM Offshore, this project gave Conexus Studio an opportunity to push the envelope in small workplace design.
To create a conducive environment for its users, a full-spectrum of work and interaction functions were considered in the space planning, despite its limited footprint. Areas such as the reception-cum-pantry take on double duty, serving as the heart of the workspace where colleagues pause to watch the news or catch up when passing by. Subtle boundaries, a balanced layout circulation and a strong material palette help to differentiate areas in the workplace and maintain a sense of privacy for users.
The Clear Difference
By limiting build-up to the building core and minimising physical division of the windows on its periphery, light pours across the entire office and spaces naturally flow between each other, creating a feel-good workplace that drives visual connection and open communication.
With the extensive use of glass, the challenge was to achieve a high level of acoustic insulation and to mitigate the loss of privacy in the enclosed rooms. This was attained through a careful selection of materials, as well as a generous application of frost film patterns inspired by the geometric design of the firm’s logo.
A Better, Faster Build
Tight schedules are pretty much constant in this industry, but SBM Offshore’s 5-week construction process, even during the Chinese New Year crunch, impressed the client. By focusing on agile design and build processes that enabled the team to work on design details whilst concurrently constructing, Conexus Studio managed to forge ahead, and even allow for a more detailed level of design and craftsmanship to boot.
“We experienced exemplary standards of dedication and care at every level of the Conexus organisation and we are delighted with the design and build which was completed in a remarkable timeframe of 5 weeks.”
Ian Chesnaye, Yard Framing Director
